SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the issue of battery performance degradation due to improper charging practices, specifically with NiMH batteries. The user, Karthik3k, experienced a significant drop in battery life after consistently charging the cell without allowing it to discharge below 80%. This behavior led to the "memory effect," which negatively impacts the battery's capacity. The conversation highlights the importance of understanding battery chemistry and proper charging techniques to maintain optimal performance.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of NiMH battery technology
  • Knowledge of the memory effect in rechargeable batteries
  • Familiarity with battery charging cycles
  • Basic principles of electrochemistry
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the memory effect in NiMH batteries
  • Learn about proper charging practices for rechargeable batteries
  • Explore battery management systems for optimal performance
  • Investigate alternative battery technologies and their advantages
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for battery users, electronics enthusiasts, and anyone involved in the maintenance or optimization of rechargeable battery systems, particularly those using NiMH technology.

I bought a new cell.
I never let the power go below 80%.
Now the cell(power) has become weak.
It can't even withstand for 5mins with full power.
What was the mistake i made ?
Did i overcharge my cell ?
I don't understand the chemistry behind that!
Can anybody explain ?

don't do that again. always let the battery empty itself before recharging
