The discussion highlights the educational value of the "Adopt a Drifter" program, which engages students in tracking oceanic buoys to learn about ocean currents. A local charter school has successfully implemented this program, sparking interest among primary students in environmental science. Participants appreciate the hands-on experience and the connection to real-world oceanography. The conversation also mentions NASA's Earth Observatory as a complementary resource, offering various categories to explore, including land and water. The enthusiasm for such programs underscores the importance of fostering environmental awareness in young learners and the potential for similar initiatives for older students and adults.

Wow, that sounds like such a cool program! I love that it gets kids involved and interested in ocean currents and the environment. I think it's so important for young minds to be exposed to these concepts and learn about the impact of ocean currents on our planet. Have you personally participated in the "Adopt a Drifter" program? I would love to hear more about your experience with it. Also, do you know if there are any other similar programs available for older students or adults? I would love to get involved in something like this. Thanks for sharing this resource!

A number of teachers have been interested in collecting the black and white films that were part of the PSSC program in the 1960s. Many of these have been converted to mp4 now and are available at archive.org, youtube.com, and other places. I have collected 58 of them, and teachers are welcome to contact me if interested.
