Is this urban legend about clams and oysters true? (men's skin)

Eating clams and oysters may have benefits for men's skin primarily due to their high zinc content, which is known to support skin health. While there is limited scientific evidence directly linking these shellfish to improved skin appearance, wellness sites often highlight zinc's role in skin nourishment. Clams and oysters are among the richest dietary sources of zinc, with oysters being particularly noted for their high levels. However, caution is advised when consuming raw clams due to the risk of pathogens, suggesting that cooked options like oyster stew may be safer. Zinc is essential for immune function and should be consumed daily, with the recommended intake for adult males being 11 mg. For more detailed nutritional information, resources like the USDA's food database can be helpful.

I herd about this, is it true. Is eating clams or oysters good for mens skin?

It’s going to be hard to find scientific evidence for this claim as many wellness sites push all manner of strange solutions to diet and weight loss.

i did find this site here:

https://www.verywellfit.com/nourish-your-skin-with-healthy-foods-2507171

that recommends various foods for Their vitamin content with clams providing zinc and with zinc being good for skin. A medical doctor reviewed and approved their content although it’s not peer reviewed so take it with a grain of salt when you read it.

Heres a report from the NCBI on zinc usage:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4120804/

bottomline is that zinc is good. However, the question of eating clams for zinc could be vastly overshadowed by getting some pathogen from eating raw clams. So enjoy your clams but eat in moderation and don’t expect your skin to necessarily glow with healthy vibes.

Oysters are the highest known source of zinc in commonly eaten food stuffs.
If you ever have a question about nutrition consider the usda site:
https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/

It has basic food ingredients as well as thousands of prepared foods - 'Branded foods'

Oysters:
https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/fdc-app.html#/food-details/782788/nutrients

I do not know anything about zinc consumption and skin, merely that the zinc content of oysters is amazing.

@jedishrfu - try oyster stew rather than raw 'pathogens' -- as you put it. Cooking destroys virtually all pathogens.

While we are at it - zinc is integral to immune response, and it is not retained like a lot of other required nutrients. You need some every day. DRI is 11mg for adult males. Per:
