The discussion revolves around the use of the "@" symbol before people's names in online communication, particularly in forums and social media. Participants explore its origins, noting that while Twitter popularized the use, it has been utilized in chat rooms and forums for years. The symbol serves as a shorthand to direct comments to specific individuals, making it easier to identify who a message is addressing. Some argue that it enhances visibility and clarity in conversations, while others feel it is unnecessary and redundant, especially when the recipient's name is already mentioned in the post. The conversation touches on the evolution of language and communication practices, with some expressing nostalgia for traditional forms of addressing individuals. Overall, the thread highlights a blend of acceptance and critique of modern communication trends.

VERY off-topic, but I'd have to say, Mr. Borek, that I find your hairstyle a little disturbing, every time your avatar pops up. Is there some kind of St. Patrick's connection to it?
I thought it was a Polish thing.

I say, let's change the PF Rules and state that user's who persist with this annoying habit will be warned, then banned after warning.

Then sit back and take bets on who will be the first to test it.

There, my one time dive bomb of this thread is over...

Now I feel better...

@Rhody... :redface:

Where did it come from? Hm, when I came to Canada for pilut training in 1977 my instructor would write down on the grading sheet things like:

Student is terrible @ X√ alt and hdg, sloppy @ correcting errors. etc, etc
