Designing Coil of Eddy Current Sensor - Get Tips & Solutions

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the design criteria for the coil of an eddy current sensor, focusing on the challenges faced by the original poster in achieving a successful design. The context includes considerations for measuring voltage variations due to the movement of a non-magnetic target near a pot-core coil, particularly under extreme operating conditions.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • The original poster seeks guidance on the criteria to follow for designing an eddy current sensor coil.
  • One participant inquires about the specific location where eddy currents are to be measured.
  • The original poster clarifies the intention to measure voltage variations caused by a non-magnetic target near a pot-core coil.
  • Another participant suggests that the answer to the measurement question is 0, prompting a request for further details if there is disagreement.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

The discussion reflects a lack of consensus, with multiple viewpoints on the measurement conditions and the implications of the design criteria. Some participants challenge the assumptions made about the measurement outcomes.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not provided specific assumptions or definitions regarding the design criteria, and the discussion includes unresolved questions about the conditions under which measurements are to be taken.

I have some problems designing the coil of an eddy current sensor.
I've been searching for some information in different pages and each of it has some criterion for the desing.
I would like to know if anyone knows which criterion must I follow to achieve a successful desing.

for any sugestion please email me at naibes@yahoo.es

where do you want to measure eddy currents?

I want to measure the voltage variations that occur because of the movement of a non-magnetic target near a pot-core coil.

where? Let's say on a extreme operating conditions

the answer is 0.
if you disagree please, give more details.
where? let's say on any kind of conditions
