Undergrad Photon Double Slit Experiment: Visualizing the Guiding Field

Click For Summary
The discussion centers on the visualization of the guiding field in the double slit experiment, specifically comparing electron and photon trajectories. It clarifies that the image in question depicts electron trajectories rather than the guiding field itself. For photons, similar trajectory patterns have been established, as referenced in the De Broglie–Bohm theory. Experts in the forum note that measurements for photons have been conducted using weak measurements, with relevant results documented in a linked study. The conversation emphasizes the parallels between electron and photon behavior in this quantum experiment.

Does the following picture which I think shows the guiding field for electron in the double slit experiment have a corresponding image when the experiment is done with photons?

Thanks for any help.

Those look like electron trajectories, not the guiding field. Trajectories for photons have been worked out for certain situations and produce similar pictures. See the references in the De Broglie–Bohm theory wiki page.

We do have experts here who hopefully can provide a more substantial response.

The picture above is for electrons, and for photons it's similar. In fact, for photons it has been measured by weak measurements: http://www.kiroku.riec.tohoku.ac.jp/simon/quantum/science-2-slit.pdf
The result is presented in Fig. 3.

These papers by Pegg et al. (doi: 10.1016/j.shpsb.2008.02.003 [section 4]; https://www.researchgate.net/publication/230928426_Retrodiction_in_quantum_optics [section 3.2]) seem to show that photon Bell correlations can be inferred using quantum theory in a manner that is compatible with locality by performing quantum retrodiction (i.e. inferring information about the past: e.g. https://doi.org/10.3390/sym13040586; more papers at end) where they evolve backward from Alice's measured outcome...
