SUMMARY

This discussion focuses on recommended group theory books that integrate concepts from quantum mechanics and relativity, particularly addressing the need for field theory. The irreducible representations of the Poincaré group and their implications for infinite-dimensional representations are highlighted as key topics. Notably, Weinberg's book is mentioned as particularly engaging, especially its second chapter, which draws interest from readers.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of group theory fundamentals
  • Familiarity with quantum mechanics principles
  • Knowledge of relativity theory concepts
  • Basic comprehension of field theory
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore "Group Theory and Quantum Mechanics" by Michael Tinkham
  • Research "Quantum Field Theory" by Franz Mandl and Graham Shaw
  • Study "The Quantum Theory of Fields" by Steven Weinberg
  • Investigate the implications of the Poincaré group in theoretical physics
USEFUL FOR

Physicists, mathematicians, and students interested in the intersection of group theory, quantum mechanics, and relativity, particularly those seeking advanced understanding of field theory applications.

Please show me some group theory books that considering the combination of quantum mechanics and relativity theory that leads to the needing of notion of fields.I have heard that the irreducible representation of Poicare group leading to the infinite dimensions representation(meaning field notion).Which books consider that problem?

All of them. People get attracted by the second chapter of Weinberg's book, though.
