Pre-calculus or calculus before physics?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

To effectively study basic physics, a solid understanding of single variable calculus, trigonometry, and algebra is essential. While introductory physics concepts can be grasped without advanced mathematics, a deeper comprehension of topics such as Newton's laws necessitates proficiency in these areas. For more advanced physics topics, knowledge of differential equations, vector algebra, and linear algebra becomes crucial. Therefore, completing pre-calculus and calculus is highly recommended before delving into physics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Single variable calculus
  • Trigonometry
  • Algebra
  • Differential equations
NEXT STEPS
  • Study single variable calculus concepts and applications
  • Explore trigonometric functions and their relevance in physics
  • Learn the fundamentals of differential equations
  • Understand vector algebra and its applications in physics
USEFUL FOR

Students and self-learners in mathematics and physics, educators seeking to structure their curriculum, and anyone interested in mastering the mathematical foundations necessary for physics comprehension.

I,m self-studying math and physics as my hobby.
Should I finish pre-calculus and calculus before I start basic physics or I can learn them simultaneously?

Quick answer: Yes

While you can study and understand the simplistic methods of all Physics without any math, even Newton's laws require at LEAST a GOOD knowledge of single variable calculus, trigonometry, and algebra. Anything more advanced likely requires substantial skill in differential equations, vector algebra and calculus, and linear algebra to start.
