Hi

I got these reactions I have some trouble with.

[itex]AgNO_{3} + Na^{+} \rightarrow NaNO_{3} + Ag^{+}[/itex]

[itex]AgNO_{3} + I^{-} \rightarrow AgI + NO_{3}[/itex]

[itex]AgNO_{3} + CO_{3}^{2-} \rightarrow (\textrm{The \ result \ ??})[/itex]

[itex]AgNO_{3} + S^{-} \rightarrow AgS + NO_{3}[/itex]

[itex]AgNO_{3} + Br^{-} \rightarrow AgBr + NO_{3}[/itex]

[itex]AgNO_3 + CrO_{4}^{2-} \rightarrow (\textrm{What \ happens here \??})[/itex]

Hope somebody can give me a hint :)

These reactions would be favored thermodynamically iff either a precipitate is formed or a gas is evolved (or both). For the last one, I think a precipitate of silver chromate should be formed. I wouldn't be too sure though...chem isn't my piece of cake really. The other thing you must keep in mind is discharge potentials (more accurately, Reduction Potentials). These can be found in the back of most general and physical chemistry texts.

This will definitely not happen. All nitrates are soluble, and anything joined to sodium is soluble. No reaction will take place.

[itex]AgNO_{3} + I^{-} \rightarrow AgI + NO_{3}[/itex]
Remember to put the charge on the NO3-.

[itex]AgNO_{3} + CO_{3}^{2-} \rightarrow (\textrm{The \ result \ ??})[/itex]
Ag2CO3 will form.

[itex]AgNO_{3} + S^{-} \rightarrow AgS + NO_{3}[/itex]
If I'm not mistaken, that sulphur should be 2- instead of -.

[itex]AgNO_{3} + Br^{-} \rightarrow AgBr + NO_{3}[/itex]
This looks right, but remember the charge on the nitrate.
