Pressure drop in pipeline in a bend or elbow

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around estimating pressure drop in pipelines specifically at 90° bends or elbows, focusing on the relationship between pipe diameter, flow rate, and pressure loss. Participants seek resources and tools for quick calculations related to this topic.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about tables or graphs for estimating pressure drop in relation to pipe diameter and flow rate for 90° bends.
  • Another participant suggests Crane Technical Paper 410 and Cameron Hydraulic Data as excellent sources for this information.
  • A different participant recommends an online calculator for pressure drop calculations.
  • One participant shares a link to software that calculates pressure drop based on diameter and flow rate for closed systems.
  • Another participant expresses appreciation for the software mentioned and finds it useful.
  • A participant provides a link to a document on friction loss in fittings and asks about downloading the pressure drop software.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the usefulness of various resources and tools for estimating pressure drop, but there is no consensus on a single method or source as the best option.

Contextual Notes

Some limitations may include the specific conditions under which the pressure drop calculations apply, such as the assumption of closed systems and the focus on 90° bends.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in fluid dynamics, engineering students, and professionals working with pipeline systems may find this discussion beneficial.

I wonder if there is no table or graph with which I can make a quick estimation of the pressure drop in relation with pipe diameter and flowrate ( for 90° bends only ) ... can anyone help me with that ??

Thanks !

Excellent sources for this stuff are Crane Technical Paper 410 and Cameron Hydraulic Data.

Also try online calculator on:

Download this small software where you put the diameter and the flow rate and it will calculate the pressure drop "For closed systems" >> http://www.firavia.com/pipesizer.rar
