QED textbook that covers QED cavity and Purcell effect

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on finding an introductory textbook that covers Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) cavities and the Purcell effect. Participants suggest Zangwill's "Modern Electrodynamics" as a potential resource, although there is uncertainty regarding its focus on classical electrodynamics rather than QED. The need for a basic theoretical understanding of these topics is emphasized, particularly for those not deeply versed in physics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of Quantum Electrodynamics (QED)
  • Familiarity with the Purcell effect
  • Knowledge of classical electrodynamics principles
  • Introductory quantum optics concepts
NEXT STEPS
  • Research "Quantum Electrodynamics textbooks" for comprehensive resources
  • Explore "Purcell effect applications in quantum optics"
  • Investigate "Zangwill's Modern Electrodynamics" for its coverage of relevant topics
  • Study "QED cavity theory" for practical implications in quantum mechanics
USEFUL FOR

Students and researchers in physics, particularly those interested in quantum optics and electrodynamics, as well as anyone seeking a foundational understanding of QED cavities and the Purcell effect.

Dear all,

I am looking for an introductory QED textbook (or quantum optics if not) that also covers QED cavity and Purcell effect in one of its chapters. I am not planning to extensively understand every single detail about QED cavity and Purcell effect since I am not a physicist and I don't really need to go that far. However, I would like to know the basic theoretical treatment of these effects.

Could someone recommend me a good textbook?

Thank you,
HAYAO

I am not sure but I think that Purcell effect is covered is Zangwill's textbook, funny you mention it I think I glossed over this topic yesterday.

Thank you, but I think Zangwill's textbook (Modern Electrodynamics?) is mainly classical electrodynamics...
