AI Thread Summary
Bob Newhart, renowned for his deadpan comedic style, has passed away at the age of 94. He gained fame in the late 1950s with his first comedy album, featuring memorable skits, including one about Abraham Lincoln. Newhart is best known for his roles in "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart," yet he only received an Emmy for his portrayal of Professor Proton on "The Big Bang Theory," which many find surprising given his extensive career. In addition to his Emmy, he won three Grammys in 1961 and the Sir Peter Ustinov Award in 1998. The discussion highlights the disparity between his Emmy recognition and his overall contributions to comedy, questioning the value of the Emmy awards in reflecting true talent.

Among MANY other roles, most of them great. I still remember him from the very late 50's when he put out his first comedy album and had, among other skits, a hilarious one about Abe Lincoln on the phone with his agent.

EDIT: It was 1960, not quite the late 50's

He got an Emmy for Professor Proton. Inexplicably, not for anything else. Not The Bob Newhart Show. Not Newhart. Go figure.

But he won 3 Grammys in 1961 and the Sir Peter Ustinov Award in 1998.
Judson only brought him a nomination in 2009 for The Curse of the Judas Chalice. What does that tell us about the value of Emmys? Judson was far better than his appearance in TBBT.
