SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the removal of pupil ghosts from images using the rmpupil command in IRAF (Image Reduction and Analysis Facility). Pupil ghosts are fixed artifacts resulting from multiple reflections of diffuse background light, which can interfere with photometric analysis. The rmpupil command is specifically designed to address this issue, as detailed in the "New Mosaic Reduction Capabilities" section of the IRAF documentation. Users are encouraged to utilize Google searches for additional resources and visual aids related to IRAF data reduction techniques.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of IRAF (Image Reduction and Analysis Facility)
  • Familiarity with photometric analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of image processing concepts
  • Basic skills in navigating online documentation and resources
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the rmpupil command in IRAF documentation
  • Explore the "New Mosaic Reduction Capabilities" section for advanced techniques
  • Learn about the impact of pupil ghosts on photometric data
  • Investigate additional image processing commands in IRAF for enhanced data reduction
USEFUL FOR

Astronomers, astrophysicists, and image processing specialists involved in photometric analysis and data reduction using IRAF.

Google search and google image search, "IRAF data reduction remove pupil ghost rmpupil command",

https://www.google.com/search?safe=... reduction remove pupil ghost rmpupil command

See in "New Mosaic Reduction Capabilities", section, "Removing pupil patterns: RMPUPIL"

The above is old, hope this helps? What is a pupil ghost?

Thanks. A pupil ghost is a fixed feature that comes from multiple reflections of the diffuse background from the sky or the telescope pupil. It is seen in flat images when doing photometry
