AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the use of the rmpupil command in IRAF to remove pupil ghosts from images. Pupil ghosts are fixed artifacts resulting from multiple reflections of background light, which can interfere with photometric analysis. Users are encouraged to refer to the "New Mosaic Reduction Capabilities" section for guidance on employing the rmpupil command effectively. Understanding the nature of pupil ghosts is crucial for accurate data reduction in astronomical imaging. The conversation highlights the importance of addressing these artifacts for improved image quality.

Google search and google image search, "IRAF data reduction remove pupil ghost rmpupil command",

The above is old, hope this helps? What is a pupil ghost?

Thanks. A pupil ghost is a fixed feature that comes from multiple reflections of the diffuse background from the sky or the telescope pupil. It is seen in flat images when doing photometry

Is a homemade radio telescope realistic? There seems to be a confluence of multiple technologies that makes the situation better than when I was a wee lad: software-defined radio (SDR), the easy availability of satellite dishes, surveillance drives, and fast CPUs. Let's take a step back - it is trivial to see the sun in radio. An old analog TV, a set of "rabbit ears" antenna, and you're good to go. Point the antenna at the sun (i.e. the ears are perpendicular to it) and there is...
