Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the implications of an SAT score of 2070 for college admissions, particularly focusing on schools with strong mathematics programs. Participants explore factors influencing admissions beyond standardized test scores.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the types of schools that might accept an SAT score of 2070, specifically those with good mathematics programs.
  • Another suggests conducting personal research on schools and their average SAT scores, referencing the College Board website.
  • A participant notes the importance of individual section scores, indicating that performance can vary significantly across different parts of the SAT.
  • Some participants argue that the SAT is not the sole determinant of college admissions, emphasizing that hard work and other factors like grades, coursework, extracurricular activities, and community service also play critical roles.
  • One participant suggests that while admission to top 10 schools may be unlikely, there are many reputable public and some private institutions that would consider a score of 2070.
  • Another participant recommends checking individual school websites for information on average SAT scores of admitted students.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree that the SAT is not the only factor in college admissions, but there is no consensus on the specific schools that can be targeted with a score of 2070. Multiple competing views regarding the importance of SAT scores versus other admission criteria remain present.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the lack of information on individual section scores and the variability in admissions criteria across different institutions.

What sort of school can I expect to get into with an SAT score like this? Are there any in particular that have a good mathematics program?

For a question like this, it might be a good idea to do your own research. There's a lot of schools out there and a lot of information on average SAT scores on the college board:

Not knowing the scores you got on each individual section makes it hard to say anything, since you could've done great on one part and terrible on another.

well from my experience SAT is not everything..
SAT doesn't test anything other than hard work..

Agreed. There's many factors that go into getting into a college. i.e. grades, classes you took, extracurriculars, community service, etc..

You probably can't get into the "top 10" schools with that. But plenty of top publics and some top (but not tippy top) privates will glady have you. i.e. don't expect to get into Princeton but say you should be in at Georgia Tech.

well you can also check their websites for average SAT of those admitted..
