Scissor linkage: dynamic analysis

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on calculating the force F required to maintain equilibrium in a scissor linkage system, specifically when the force is applied at the middle joint. Key variables include the arm length (L) and the horizontal distance (a) between the two joints. Participants suggest utilizing existing forum resources for additional guidance and emphasize the importance of showing initial attempts for homework-related queries.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of static equilibrium principles

Hi guys,

I have a scissor linkage and I should calculate the force F for keeping the system in equilibrium in a specific position. The force must be applied in the the middle joint as you can see in the following picture:

L is the arms lenght, instead a is the horizontal distance between the two joints. How can I calculate this force for a specific height and supported weight? Any suggestions, or links are appreciated.

Thanks
