There is a concern about content from "The Lounge" appearing in trending sections, as it affects the visibility of other threads. Users express frustration over the inability to exclude specific forums from trending content. The discussion suggests that increasing likes on other threads could help balance the trending content. However, turning off likes in "The Lounge" is considered a potential solution, though it may negatively impact user experience. Overall, the community is seeking a resolution to improve the relevance of trending content without compromising engagement.

I would suggest not letting content from “The Lounge” being placed in trending content.

Yeah it's a pain point. The issue is that it's not an option to exclude forums. I'm leaning on the devs hard lol. We need more likes on other threads to bounce it out.

If it is a question of likes, you could look into turning them off in the lounge.

Yeah, although that would be a pity. The cure might be worse than the poison (in terms of the GD experience.)

Fair point, by my humble opinion.
I would also consider splitting it off from general user scores. Or at least set a lower weight for them.
Posting in Lounge always has this 'meh, go farming points' feeling for me. o:)

Manual nomination, perhaps? Might be a good advisor activity.

Weird. I spent the last 10 minutes looking for a 'TRENDING' tag/button/drop-down/list, and couldn't find one.

It's on the top of the page:

There is also a list of five at the top of “What’s New”. I have seen as many as four of them from the Lounge at one time.

It is a question of what likes are supposed to represent. One can argue that they should represent the quality of one’s physics advice and that lounge posts in general do not.

I do not feel strongly about likes. I find the trending list embarassing and this is just a possible solution.

Tongue in cheek. ;)

I agree with you, it is a physics site, although I like appreciation of my photography efforts! A little bit of Art, a little bit of tech.

Same with music.

Likes does not necessarily lead to points, which is an indicator of science post quality.

Post numbers in the lounge do not count to total posts either so we are clipped back in that way.

The regular chaps like myself should probably make some more effort to read, upvote and contribute in the science section.

They could use points as a public metric. Maybe they can stop providing totals of likes and instead award points for likes in the technical forums. This does not solve the trending problem.

I think this is the key point here. We are asking the Xenforo developers to give us more control over which threads are featured at the top of the home page. Hopefully they give us that update soon.

It's why you're a multiverse.
