Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around solving a definite integral involving the expression \(\int_{-\sqrt{E}}^\sqrt{E} \frac{\sqrt{E-W^2}}{BW^2+a}\,dW = n \pi\). Participants are exploring methods to simplify the solution, which is noted to be complex when computed using Mathematica.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking, Mathematical reasoning

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants are questioning what specific variable is being solved for, with suggestions to consider \(n\) in terms of other values or \(E\) in terms of \(n\). There is also a mention of using trigonometric substitution as a potential approach.

Discussion Status

The discussion is ongoing with various interpretations being explored. Some participants are providing guidance on potential methods, while others are clarifying the variables involved in the integral.

Contextual Notes

There is an indication that the solution derived from Mathematica is not satisfactory, prompting participants to seek alternative methods or insights. The original poster expresses a desire for "cunning tricks or ideas" to tackle the integral.

what are you solving for? n in terms of the other values?

E in terms of n

I fixed your LaTeX.

I would probably start with a trig substitution.
