Speed of electromagnetic radiation

SUMMARY

Electromagnetic radiation emitted by cold hydrogen gas travels at the speed of light, which is a constant value of approximately 299,792 kilometers per second in a vacuum. This principle applies universally, as all forms of electromagnetic radiation—including radio waves, microwaves, infrared, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays—travel at the same speed. The source of the electromagnetic radiation does not affect its speed.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of electromagnetic radiation concepts
  • Familiarity with the speed of light in a vacuum
  • Knowledge of different types of electromagnetic radiation
  • Basic principles of physics related to wave propagation
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the properties of electromagnetic radiation
  • Study the speed of light and its implications in physics
  • Explore the differences between various types of electromagnetic radiation
  • Learn about the applications of electromagnetic radiation in technology
USEFUL FOR

Students of physics, educators, and professionals in fields related to telecommunications and optics will benefit from this discussion on the speed of electromagnetic radiation.

Yes. The speed of light is the speed of light. It doesn't matter where the light came from.

All kinds of electromagnetic radiation travel at the same speed. Light is electromagnetic radiation just like radio waves, microwaves, IR, UV, X-rays and gamma radiation.
