SUMMARY

The discussion centers on finding a suitable high voltage probe for measuring transient spikes up to 3.0kV for research purposes. The user currently has a digital voltmeter (DVM) that only measures up to 1kV and seeks alternatives under $100 that can measure from 0V to between 3kV and 10kV. A recommended high-voltage probe priced at approximately $65 is mentioned, which may be compatible with standard logging DMMs. Additionally, the user inquires about DMMs capable of reaching 1.5kV with data logging capabilities.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of high voltage measurement techniques
  • Familiarity with digital voltmeters (DVMs)
  • Knowledge of high-voltage probes and their specifications
  • Experience with data logging in measurement devices
NEXT STEPS
  • Research high-voltage probes compatible with DVMs, specifically those priced under $100
  • Investigate digital multimeters (DMMs) that can measure up to 1.5kV with data logging features
  • Explore the specifications and reviews of the BK Precision PR28A high-voltage probe
  • Learn about transient voltage measurement techniques and safety precautions
USEFUL FOR

Researchers, electrical engineers, and technicians involved in high voltage applications who require reliable measurement tools for transient voltage spikes.

Hi I'm looking for a suitable high voltage prob for my research project. I'm in contact with voltages that can have transient spikes as high as 3.0kV but my DVM only measures up to 1kV and 97% of the time I am under this range. I bought this and it was perfect the only problem is that it has a range on 1kV to 40kV. Does anybody have a solution or know of any sub $100 probes that can measure from 0V to (3kV - 10kv). Or does anybody know a DMM that can reach 1.5kV w/ data logging capabilities?

Can you just use a high-voltage probe with a standard logging DMM? This probe is listed at $65 or so...
