Finding summer jobs that adequately cover living expenses can be challenging for individuals with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics. Engaging in lab technician roles or seeking research positions at local colleges or universities are viable alternatives to low-paying jobs like flipping burgers. Networking with professors for potential grant-funded research opportunities is a proven strategy for securing such positions. Additionally, expanding tutoring services to include private tutoring can enhance income without the burden of taxes.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of job market dynamics for physics graduates
  • Familiarity with academic research funding processes
  • Knowledge of tutoring methodologies and private tutoring opportunities
  • Networking skills for approaching professors and industry professionals
NEXT STEPS
  • Research local colleges for available lab technician positions
  • Explore grant funding opportunities for summer research roles
  • Learn effective strategies for private tutoring and client acquisition
  • Network with professors to inquire about research assistantships

Any suggestions for summer jobs? Guess its kinda hard to go from physics to flipping burgers. I have a part time job as a tutor at the college, but that doesn't really pay the rent.

If you already have you BA in physics, couldn't you find a job working as a lab technician . That kind of job is more frugal than flipping burgers.

It's not too late to get a research position at a local college or university. Ask around to see if the professors would be willing to pay you with grant money. That's how I got my first research position after freshman year of college, just by asking right before summer.

Or see if you can supplement your college tutoring by getting hired as a private tutor (which can be even better – no taxes).
