Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around determining the number of lines that make equal angles with coordinate axes. Participants explore the conditions under which this question is posed, including dimensionality and the specific angles considered.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • Some participants propose that there are 4 lines (or 8 rays) that meet the criteria, but this claim is contested.
  • One participant notes that the answer depends on the conditions specified, such as whether angles are measured from positive or negative directions.
  • Another participant questions whether the discussion pertains to two-dimensional or three-dimensional coordinate axes.
  • There is a suggestion that the assumption of three dimensions is inherent in the original post, based on the number of lines mentioned.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the number of lines, as there are multiple competing views regarding the conditions and dimensionality involved in the question.

Contextual Notes

The discussion lacks clarity on the specific conditions and definitions that would lead to a definitive answer, such as the dimensional context and the angles considered.

Hello mr B, welcome to PF  !

Please explain it is a bit short. Explain what, precisely ?

Have you made any attempt at a solution yourself? What do you think it might be and why?

I think it's 4 lines (8 rays) but there are some who are opposing me..What is the right answer?

There is not a "right" answer, because you have not fully stated the conditions to be met. Personally, I agree w/ you but, again, it depends on the specified conditions (which you have not stated). For example, are we talking about angles from the positive x, y, and z directions or is it OK that the angle be from the negative directions?

Also, are we talking about coordinate axes in two or three dimensions?

I don't think he could have possibly come up with 4 lines if it were not 3D, so I think that's inherent in his post.
