AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around humorous life lessons that many people learn over time, originally inspired by Dave Barry. Key points include observations on societal norms, such as the questionable value of daylight-saving time and the universal belief in being an above-average driver. Participants share insights on personal relationships, emphasizing that true friends accept you as you are and that one should avoid making assumptions about others, especially regarding sensitive topics like pregnancy. The conversation also touches on the futility of meetings, the importance of separating career from life, and the realization that many regrets stem from missed opportunities. Additional contributions expand on these themes, highlighting the complexities of human behavior, the inevitability of aging, and the humorous absurdities of life, such as the perception of organized protests and the nature of friendships. Overall, the thread captures a blend of wisdom and wit, reflecting on the lessons learned through life's experiences.

!Things It Takes Most Of Us 50 years to learn!

Originally created by Dave Barry

1. The badness of a movie is directly proportional to the number of helicopters in it.

2. You will never find anybody who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight-saving time.

3. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

4. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above-average drivers.

5. There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is: age 11.

6. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

7. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

8. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, its full potential, that word would be "meetings."

9. The main accomplishment of almost all organized protests is to annoy people who are not in them.

10. If there really is a God who created the entire universe with all of its glories, and he decides to deliver a message to humanity, he will NOT use as his messenger a person on cable TV with a bad hairstyle or in some cases, really bad make-up too.

11. You should not confuse your career with your life.

12. A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter/janitor, is not a nice person.

13. No matter what happens, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously.

14. When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that individual is crazy.

15. Your true friends love you, anyway.

16. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

Add your own experiences...starting with Number.17 , let's see till what number we can go.

27, 30, 31... so so true. I'm just learning that now; I'm already 24 & don't really have many stories to tell. makes me think of pink floyd's time:
Time
(Mason, Waters, Wright, Gilmour) 7:06

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

Every year is getting shorter never seem to find the time.
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over,
Thought I'd something more to say.

#55:

There is a 25,000 year old cave painting in a cave of France. It is that of a hand, a man's hand. It's as if to announce, "this is man, I have arrived". But there is something else there, over the man's hand and not easy to see. Look closely . . . it is that of another hand, a smaller one, that of a woman. She announces, "and I am woman, the source of your strength"

Some things you can only see by living a long time.

people will constantly be telling you all the things that they are certain you will not understand until you are older...stupid!

parents spend the first months of their childs life desperately trying to convince them to stand and speak, once accomplished they spend the rest of their lives deperately trying to convince them to sit down and shut up.

we all really do become our parents no matter how hard we try to avoid it, or ignore it.
