SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on solving a complex limit problem related to a lossless transmission line with open-circuit termination. The user seeks assistance in understanding the equivalent impedance (Zi) as the load impedance (Zl) approaches infinity. A participant suggests simplifying the problem by dividing both the numerator and denominator by Zl, which streamlines the calculation process. This approach effectively clarifies the limit evaluation without requiring extensive knowledge of electronics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of complex limits in mathematics
  • Familiarity with impedance concepts in electrical engineering
  • Basic knowledge of transmission line theory
  • Ability to manipulate algebraic expressions
NEXT STEPS
  • Research techniques for evaluating complex limits in calculus
  • Study the principles of impedance in transmission lines
  • Learn about lossless transmission line models and their applications
  • Explore algebraic simplification methods for complex equations
USEFUL FOR

Students and professionals in electrical engineering, mathematicians dealing with complex limits, and anyone interested in transmission line theory and impedance calculations.

So here i am, trying to understand a lossless transmission line that has open-circuit termination. So i start with the generic Zi, the equivalent impedance seen by the source, then allow the load impedance (Zl) to approach infinity. As you can see, i have no idea how to do it. It's been way to long since I've done complex limits. Please see attached workings. This is a math quesiton, you obviously don't need to know electronics to answer it.
Cheers

Just divide the nominator and denominator by ZL.

that makes life easy!
cheers
