AI Thread Summary
Tropical Storm Sara has formed in the Caribbean Sea and is projected to move northwest over Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula into the Bay of Campeche. The storm is expected to shift northeast while traversing the Gulf of Mexico, potentially impacting the Florida Gulf Coast, particularly areas just north of Tampa. Heavy rainfall and the risk of catastrophic flooding are anticipated along the Gulf Coast, affecting regions in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and northern Florida. The storm's trajectory is being closely monitored, especially due to recent hurricane activity in the area.

Let's see how close predictions come to reality.

Tropical Storm, Sara, formed in the Caribbean Sea, off the coast of Honduras. It is expected to move NW over Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula into the Bay of Campeche (Spanish: Bahía de Campeche), or Campeche Sound, in the southern portion of the Gulf of Mexico. Over the bay, Sara is expected to turn to the NE and traverse the Gulf of Mexico to the Florida Gulf Coast, perhaps just north of Tampa, Florida.

I have been watching the storm since some of the models have it going to the Tampa area where my sister lives. They had two hurricanes recently and another one in neighboring regions.

Thread 'The Secrets of Prof. Verschure's Rosetta Stones'
(Edit: since the thread title was changed, this first sentence is too cryptic: the original title referred to a Tool song....) Besides being a favorite song by a favorite band, the thread title is a straightforward play on words. This summer, as a present to myself for being promoted, I purchased a collection of thin sections that I believe comprise the research materials of Prof. Rob Verschure, who at the time was faculty in the Geological Institute in Amsterdam. What changed this...
These last days, there is a seemingly endless cluster of rather powerful earthquakes close to the islands of Santorini, Amorgos, Anafi, and Ios. Remember, this is a highly volcanically active region, Santorini especially being famous for the supervolcanic eruption which is conjectured to have led to the decline of the Minoan civilization: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minoan_eruption To grasp the scale of what is happening, between the 26th of January and the 9th of February, 12000...
