Troubleshooting Post Counter and Avatar Issues | Pixel and K Byte Limits

AI Thread Summary
Post counts in the forum do not increase when posting in certain areas, such as General Discussion, which explains why some users may see stagnant numbers. Users are experiencing issues with avatar visibility, noting that avatars are exclusive to PF Contributors, while everyone else can only upload profile pictures. Profile pictures are only visible on individual profile pages, which may lead to confusion about their appearance. The pixel and k byte limits for avatars and profile pictures are being adhered to by users. For further assistance, utilizing the forum's search function is recommended.

Seems like it's been at 47 for a long time. Also I'm not seeing the picture for my avatar. It's within the pixel and k byte limits.

Posting in certain areas of the forum (General Discussion) does not contribute to your post count. If it did, I think a few of us would have a million posts :P

You also don't have an avatar, you have a profile picture. Avatars are one of the perks of being a PF Contributor.

The search function is pretty helpful for questions like these.

Posts in the https://www.physicsforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34 do not increase your count. Avatars are only for contributing members, what you have uploaded is a profile picture which anyone can have. Once you have an avatar you can set it separately, it could be the same picture as your profile or different.

thanks for the quick reply. But I don't see my profile picture. Or is that only visible on my profile page?

Yes, it is only visibly on your profile page.

I want to thank those members who interacted with me a couple of years ago in two Optics Forum threads. They were @Drakkith, @hutchphd, @Gleb1964, and @KAHR-Alpha. I had something I wanted the scientific community to know and slipped a new idea in against the rules. Thank you also to @berkeman for suggesting paths to meet with academia. Anyway, I finally got a paper on the same matter as discussed in those forum threads, the fat lens model, got it peer-reviewed, and IJRAP...
This came up in my job today (UXP). Never thought to raise it here on PF till now. Hyperlinks really should be underlined at all times. PF only underlines them when they are rolled over. Colour alone (especially dark blue/purple) makes it difficult to spot a hyperlink in a large block of text (or even a small one). Not everyone can see perfectly. Even if they don't suffer from colour deficiency, not everyone has the visual acuity to distinguish two very close shades of text. Hover actions...
About 20 years ago, in my mid-30s (and with a BA in economics and a master's in business), I started taking night classes in physics hoping to eventually earn the science degree I'd always wanted but never pursued. I found physics forums and used it to ask questions I was unable to get answered from my textbooks or class lectures. Unfortunately, work and life got in the way and I never got further the freshman courses. Well, here it is 20 years later. I'm in my mid-50s now, and in a...
