Discussion Overview

The thread revolves around a game where participants share two truths and one lie about themselves, inviting others to guess which statement is the lie. The discussion includes personal anecdotes, humorous exchanges, and various claims about past experiences and family history.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Meta-discussion

Main Points Raised

  • One participant claims to have had their own TV show at 16, later correcting it to a radio show.
  • Another participant asserts they were investigated for grand larceny, drove a car over 230 mph, and pitched no-hitters in little league baseball.
  • A different participant shares they have been proposed to three times, had a relative who fixed German trucks in WW2, and spent years in Somalia as a child.
  • Claims about family connections to notable figures, including a relative married to the Bride of Frankenstein and a wealthy ancestor from the late 18th century, are discussed.
  • Participants express skepticism about the feasibility of driving a car at 230 mph and question the truth of various personal claims.
  • One participant mentions holding passports from three countries and ranks in the top 20 of minesweeper expert times.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

There is no consensus on which statements are true or false, as participants express differing opinions and guesses about each other's claims. The discussion remains unresolved with multiple competing views.

Contextual Notes

Some claims rely on personal experiences that may not be verifiable, and assumptions about the feasibility of certain statements are debated without resolution.

Bob, I'd picked #2 for being false. What kind of goof carries non-safety matches in his pocket?:-p
Any more guesses on mine before I spill it?
What are you talking about? I got it right, didn't I?

BobG, you are entirely too astute for your own good.

Okay, then I'll pick #1. I still think a 143 hour security shift due to being snowed in is entirely feasible.

Yeah. I was just giving others a chance to try before admitting it. Your reasoning was what I referred to as 'astute', not the correctness of your guess.
I've never built a model rocket. The movies that I was in were Superman III, Rad, American Harvest (made for TV) and Gunsmoke: Return to Dodge.
I was security chief for the first science fiction convention held in Calgary. I went in Thursday afternoon and left Monday night. The caveat is that I had 2 one-hour naps and 1 two-hour nap somewhere along the line.
