I just encountered an A.C Generator. I understand that it turns mechanical energy into electrical energy.

I also understand that if a coil is moved through a magnetic field, a current will be induced.

What I dont understand is why A.C current is produced, not D.C

could someone please simply explain to me the reason.

There are two ways you can connect the output wires to the coils in the generator.

Using a split commutator provides DC.

Using a slip ring provides AC.
