Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around the relationship between distance and gravitational force between two objects, specifically whether the force increases or decreases as the objects move apart. The subject area is gravitational physics.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Mathematical reasoning

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants explore the concept of gravitational force, questioning how distance affects this force. They reference the gravitational force formula and discuss the implications of changing mass and distance.

Discussion Status

Participants are actively engaging with the concepts, with some suggesting that as distance increases, the gravitational force decreases. There is a recognition that increasing mass while decreasing distance would lead to an increase in force, indicating a productive exploration of the topic.

Contextual Notes

There is a focus on the gravitational force formula, and participants are considering the implications of varying mass and distance, though some assumptions about the scenario may not be fully articulated.

Homework Statement

when there are like two objects moving farther away from each other, is the force bigger or smaller when they are closer together?

What do you think and why?

is it bigger? because the gravitational force of attraction is pulling them together?

So the force is given by F=GMM/r2. So as r increases what happens to F?

ooo it gets smaller beacuase there is a larger number diving the GMM. so then if the mass gets bigger, but the distance between gets smaller, then the force will increase right?

That is the idea here.

ok thank you.
