I know it is a simple question but I cannot find the answer. Why is the [001] diffraction peak not observed in XRD but [004] peak is observed. Thank you.
The absence of the [001] diffraction peak in X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) can be attributed to the specific symmetry and structure factors of the crystal system being analyzed. In simple crystal structures such as Body-Centered Cubic (BCC), Face-Centered Cubic (FCC), and diamond cubic, the [004] peak is observable due to the constructive interference of X-rays, while the [001] peak is not. Understanding these phenomena requires a solid grasp of the Structure Factor as outlined in XRD textbooks.
