AI Thread Summary
Posts from the Cosmological Redshift in Simulated Universe thread were deleted as they were deemed tangents, which sometimes leads to separation into new threads or outright deletion based on their perceived value. The user questioned the moderation's decision, emphasizing that their posts contained rigorous technical explanations and were not primarily about moderation actions. It was noted that typically, moderators provide reasons for deletions, but in this case, no alerts or warnings were issued. The user expressed interest in republishing their content if they could remove references to the deleted posts. The discussion highlights the challenges of maintaining technical focus while managing moderation actions in forum threads.

They were a tangent from the thread.

When that happens sometimes we will separate out the tangent and form a new thread from the tangent. Sometimes we will simply delete the tangent.

It is a judgement call that depends on how valuable the material in the tangent is, and how difficult a split would be.

Frankly, I don't see how it is possible to consider as tangent the only posts where the impossibility of the scenario presented in the OP is rigorously explained. But, well, you are the judges, not me.

Just out of curiosity, is there any particular reason why, at the time, no one explained to me the reasons why my posts were deleted?

A few posts discussing moderation actions have been deleted.

This forum is for technical content only. Please post comments about moderation actions (including complaints) in the feedback forum. That forum is provided explicitly to provide a place where such things may be discussed without detracting from the technical content.
I suppose this is meant to "explain" the disappearance of my posts in the thread The Boundary of the Observable Universe. However, it should be noted that in none of those posts did I discuss any moderation action. Perhaps, yes, I did tangentially mention in some of them the disappearance of my posts, but not only did I not even know at the time that it was an moderation action, but that mention was not the point of the posts, which were eminently technical.

I find it curious that the moderation considers a tangent from the thread a post that @PeterDonis considered to say practically the same thing as post #2 and @Ibix considered worthy of a "like".

Usually we post a reason in the "Alert" that tells you about the action. I see that this was not done in that specific case. There are no notes, so I am not sure why not.

The other way to notify someone is through a warning, e.g. if the moderation could affect someone's access to the forum or we are assigning "points". It looks like in this case there was no points assigned and no desire to impact access, so the warning approach was not used either.

One of these posts is where, based on the text of Davis & Lineweaver and the text of Ryden, I explain and justify my point of view in this regard. In that post, there was a single mention of my lost posts so, I assume, that was the reason for its deletion.

I would like to know if I can republish that post if I remove the mention of the lost posts from it.
