Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the use of a small motor to drive multiple devices, such as fans, and explores various methods for achieving this on a small scale. Participants share their thoughts on mechanical systems and electrical power transfer.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions the feasibility of using a single motor for multiple devices and suggests that maximizing airflow would require a larger fan for each motor.
  • Another participant proposes that if multiple small devices are to be operated, it might be more effective to use a separate motor for each device.
  • A different participant mentions that a belt system could be a viable solution, referencing common automotive applications as an example.
  • One participant expresses interest in historical methods of accomplishing similar tasks, though specifics are not provided.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

There appears to be disagreement regarding the best approach to using a single motor for multiple devices, with various methods proposed but no consensus reached on a definitive solution.

Contextual Notes

The discussion lacks detailed specifications about the devices in question, such as their power requirements or operational context, which may affect the proposed solutions.

that doesn't really make much sense to me.

If you want max airflow, then you'd be best off sizing 1 fan to be as large as possible given the motor size/power.

If you want operate several small fans in different locations, then you should have a small motor for each one. The motor is always going to be smaller than the fan blades, and transferring power electrically is much easier than any system of belts or gears.

thanks Mrparkle for your reply. i meant in a small scale. how can i use one motor to spin several devices, it doesn't matter if it's a fan or something else.

a belt system is a pretty common answer. just look at the front of most cars for an example.

Here's how they used to do it, in the past.
