Vector angle and magnitude help

SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on resolving the forces acting on a 105-N suitcase positioned on a rubber ramp at a 25-degree angle. The key calculations involve determining the magnitude of the weight vector's components: the parallel component to the ramp surface and the perpendicular component. The user initially misinterpreted the weight measurement, confusing Newtons with kilograms, which led to confusion in calculating the normal force (Fn) and applied force (Fapp). The correct approach involves using trigonometric functions to resolve the weight vector into its components.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of vector decomposition
  • Familiarity with trigonometric functions (sine and cosine)
  • Knowledge of Newton's laws of motion
  • Basic concepts of forces acting on inclined planes
NEXT STEPS
  • Study vector decomposition techniques in physics
  • Learn how to apply trigonometric functions to resolve forces
  • Explore the concepts of normal force and friction on inclined surfaces
  • Practice problems involving forces on ramps and inclined planes
USEFUL FOR

Students in physics, educators teaching mechanics, and anyone interested in understanding force resolution on inclined surfaces.

A 105-N suitcase sits on a rubber ramp at an airport carousel at a 25 degree angle. The weight vector can be broken into two perpendicular components. What is the magnitude of the compenent parallel to the ramp surface and the magnitude of the component at a right angle?

I don't think that understand what the question is asking for because I sketched it out then found the normal force, applied force and weight force, but from there I am confused as to what the question is asking.

I think Fw=1029 Fn=932.6 Fapp= 435

never mind... I should have realized that the weight was in Newtons not kg...
