SUMMARY

The discussion centers on finding suitable software for creating mechanical vector drawings in 3D. While InkScape is mentioned as a viable option, it is noted to have limitations in 3D capabilities. Participants suggest exploring Java3D, an API for 3D graphics, especially for those familiar with Java programming. The conversation emphasizes the need for clarity on the intended use of 3D vectors, whether for visualization or more complex vector math applications.

PREREQUISITES
  • Familiarity with vector graphics concepts
  • Basic understanding of 3D modeling techniques
  • Knowledge of Java programming for using Java3D
  • Experience with graphic design software like InkScape
NEXT STEPS
  • Research advanced features of Java3D for 3D graphics development
  • Explore alternative 3D drawing software such as Blender or Autodesk Fusion 360
  • Learn about vector math applications in 3D modeling
  • Investigate plugins or extensions for InkScape that enhance 3D capabilities
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for graphic designers, mechanical engineers, and software developers interested in 3D vector drawing tools and techniques.

Hi all,

I'm looking for some nice software to make mechanical vector drawings (3D). InkScape is a good one, but is quite limited concerning 3D drawings.
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I would like to help but I would ask what do you want to do with the 3D vectors?
Do you want to show Vector addition/subtraction? Perhaps read off the numerical resultant?
Or are you thinking of a full drawing tool that uses vector math to make 3D objects that can be scaled and rotated?

Ok, I just took a look at a description of InkScape. Looks like you are looking for drawing software.
If you know Java, Java3D is an API for doing 3d graphics.
