Video lectures on lattices in mathematics

In summary, a lattice in mathematics is a discrete set of points arranged in a specific pattern, with many applications in cryptography, number theory, and geometry. Its main properties include periodicity, translational symmetry, and the presence of a basis. Lattices are used in cryptography to create secure encryption systems and in the design of electronic devices. Video lectures on lattices offer the advantage of visual aids and flexibility, but may lack immediate interaction and clarification.

TL;DR Summary
lattices
Hi,

I’m looking for video lectures on lattices in mathematics (or lattices in computer science) which might be related to number theory. Could anyone recommend some?

Do you mean introduction to theory? Work with a book, instead. Birkhoff comes to mind. I found some videos on lattices in youtube, but they are not introductions to theory.

1. What are lattices in mathematics?

Lattices in mathematics refer to a discrete structure that is used to study algebraic structures such as groups, rings, and fields. It consists of a set of elements with two operations, namely, meet and join, that satisfy certain properties.

2. How are lattices used in mathematics?

Lattices are used in mathematics to study various algebraic structures and their properties. They are also used in areas such as computer science, cryptography, and physics to model and solve problems related to ordering and hierarchies.

3. What are some examples of lattices in mathematics?

Some examples of lattices in mathematics include the Boolean lattice, the subgroup lattice, and the lattice of subspaces of a vector space. Other examples include the lattice of partitions of a set, the lattice of ideals of a ring, and the lattice of normal subgroups of a group.

4. What is the difference between a lattice and a lattice structure?

The term "lattice" can refer to both a mathematical structure and a physical structure. In mathematics, a lattice is a partially ordered set with certain properties, while a lattice structure refers to the actual arrangement of elements in a physical lattice, such as in crystal structures or network diagrams.

5. How can I learn more about lattices in mathematics?

There are many resources available for learning about lattices in mathematics, including textbooks, online courses, and video lectures. You can also consult with a mathematics professor or attend seminars and conferences on the topic to deepen your understanding.
