I got a Blu-ray player and a netbook and something else from my woman that I can't describe publicly. Hmph. Anyway.

What did you get for Christmas? Did you like what you found? Because we all know what Christmas is really about! :biggrin:

I got some homemade chocolate truffles from my manager who I really don't like and I don't think he likes me... was kinda scared to eat them... but then temptation took over... awaiting consequences...

I got 3 $50 gift certificates from a neighbor. One to the local garden-supply store, one to the artisan butcher shop/deli, and one to a health-food store owned by an old musician friend. Those won't last long - they are some of our favorite businesses.
 
In true nerd fashion, I just bought a bunch of books from Amazon.com...

I got a laptop and a dvd player, plus a few gift certificates to the mall. Best of all though I got to see my god-daughter. Haven't been able to see it very often because I'm living pretty far away from home for school this year she's grown up a lot since I last saw her (over the summer) her vocabularly has grown exponentially (she just turned two last month). Lol, last time I saw her she really only talked to me about seeing an airplane and some birdies and fishes. Now she was having a full out argument with me over a princess tiara, haha.
 


$650 in cash and a pair of jeans.

In addition to some new sweats and various treats, Tsu got me several new sets of Wickers. Yay! I really needed some new ones.

I first bought these about twenty years ago as "military issue arctic thermalwear", but at some point the supplier went commercial, I guess, and they are sold under the indicated brand name as "high-performance underwear" :smile:. If you spend a lot of time in the cold, I strongly recommend them. I find they are comfortable to wear around the property as sweats [which is what they look like] from about 20 degrees F, to 70 degrees.

I got a portable DVD player from my mom and dad.
Also, a portable cow creamer (from a very sweet forum friend).
Santa brought me some Ande's mints and I'm trying to not eat the whole box.

Hard to beat a mandolin... Nice present

Many years ago, I visited a friend who was renting a place in town, and he had bought a nice melon-back Gibson. He took it out and showed it to me, and went to the kitchen to cut up some cheese, pickles, etc for snacks. I started playing some changes on the mandolin and he hollered out "how long have you played mandolin?" and I told him that I never played it before. Then he said "I hate you!".

It's not all that hard. If you have struggled with violin and hammered out stuff on banjo, mandolin is a cake-walk.

BTW, The fellow that he was taking lessons from was a transplanted neighbor of a very dear friend of mine (eventually) in Winter Haven Florida. Nice old fellow that happens to own the best collection of Mississippi rifles in the whole US.

I got a metal detector! I'm going detectin' as soon as this freakish xmass snow clears up. Gold mining has been part of North Carolina ( Charlotte ) history. I have a creek right near my house which I plan to explore. Gold! That's the ticket. I'll find it by the handfulls!

I got nothing and gave nothing. It was my first opportunity, now that I'm rid of the wife, to totally ignore the whole thing. My niece down the street, and an old family friend who had me over last year, both invited me to dinner. I had to decline, due to aspects of my illness which are too embarrassing to elaborate upon. It made me very happy to stay home with my cat, watch TV, and beat the living bejabers out of several dozen dragons.

Now you're just freaking me out. I love beef, and I love creamed corn, but this is a concept that I've never encountered before. Does it make something like chipped beef on toast (what was called "**** on a shingle" in the army)? Wouldn't a wood-chipper work just as well?

It's more simplistic than that. It's a little ceramic cow that holds coffee creamer. The tail is the handle, and when you tip it, cream pours out of the mouth. It's really adorable.



Ahh, just spoiled myself with some hippy soap today -- Madagascar vanilla.. so nice. :)

That's vastly preferable to the other way around.

My family chipped in and got me a new winter coat. As previously mentioned, I despise winter. Maybe now I'll despise it less. Being cold is pretty much the biggest part of why I hate winter. All in all, a good gift. Really nice coat too. Thick goose down, and nice tough material that looks like it won't tear easily.

My old coat was a piece of <censored>. Within a week, a snap button ripped out of the cheap material. It was goose down, but I'm pretty sure they didn't inconvenience any significant number of geese to make it.
