Schools What are interesting research topics in plasma physics now?

AI Thread Summary
Undergraduate students interested in plasma physics are encouraged to explore computational research opportunities, particularly in areas like space plasma, which often utilize computer simulations. While fusion research is a common focus, it may be too advanced for some students. Resources such as UCL's space plasma research and other academic institutions provide valuable insights into this field. Additionally, reviewing articles and papers from reputable sources can help gauge the complexity of topics and determine suitability for undergraduate research. Engaging with current discussions in forums can also reveal diverse research possibilities beyond fusion, expanding the scope of potential projects in plasma physics.

I'm an undergraduate student and thinking of doing a research in plasma physics. Any suggestion? I prefer to do it computationally.

Most research topic in plasma physics I googled are about fusion, but do you think it's too advanced for my education level?

You might have a look at the Phys.org article mentioned in this recent PF thread, and then have a look at the paper referenced in the article. Does it look like it's at a level that you are comfortable working through?

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
Yesterday, 9/5/2025, when I was surfing, I found an article The Schwarzschild solution contains three problems, which can be easily solved - Journal of King Saud University - Science ABUNDANCE ESTIMATION IN AN ARID ENVIRONMENT https://jksus.org/the-schwarzschild-solution-contains-three-problems-which-can-be-easily-solved/ that has the derivation of a line element as a corrected version of the Schwarzschild solution to Einstein’s field equation.
