SUMMARY

The forum discussion centers around the search for unique physics-themed band names. The user initially considered names like "Neon Black" and "Bigger Than Infinity" but found them unsuitable due to existing usage or complexity. Suggestions from the community included "Quantum Chromatics," "The Valence Band," and "Time Dilation," with "Quantum Chromatics" ultimately being chosen as the final name. The conversation highlights the importance of creativity and audience consideration in naming a band.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic physics concepts such as quantum mechanics and relativity.
  • Familiarity with band naming conventions and audience engagement.
  • Knowledge of existing band names to avoid duplication.
  • Creativity in wordplay and thematic connections in naming.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the significance of "Quantum Chromatics" in physics and music.
  • Explore branding strategies for musicians, focusing on name uniqueness.
  • Investigate the impact of audience demographics on band name perception.
  • Learn about effective marketing techniques for new music releases.
USEFUL FOR

Musicians, band managers, and anyone interested in creative branding, particularly those looking to incorporate scientific themes into their artistic identity.

Hey guys!

This is my first post here, and the main reason I signed up.

I need a physics-y, kind of geeky band name.

I was using Neon Black but there's another band by that name already.
I also thought of naming the band Bigger Than Infinity but that sounds weird.
Quantum Chromodynamics will be too hard to spell for people (if they want to search us up).
I absolutely LOVED Quantum Chromodynamics of Time but again, too hard to spell for people.

I'm considering naming us M Theory. But I want more opinions and who else to ask but PF!

PLEASE MAKE SURE THE BAND NAME YOU SUGGEST ISN'T TAKEN ALREADY :).

How about "The Valence Band"?

Or shortening "Quantum Chromodynamics of Time" to "Quantum Chromatics"? ( A play on quantum chromatic numbers and the chromatic music scale.)

Or The Band Gap Filters.

QED
Psi Squared
Electrolytes
Brane Theory
Planck Time [or Mass, Length]
Planck Units
Time Dilation
The 11th Dimension
Supermassive Black Holes

Hey, this is fun.

Naked Physics [thinking of the naked archeologist]
Square Waves
Dirac delta function
The Hamiltonians
Lagrange
Fermions
I'm guessing The Bosons is out
Stress-energy Tensor
Tachyons

Sorry, I'm not checking for usage.

Why do you need a geeky name?
Is your audience composed of geeks mainly?
If they are geeks, I would I assume they know how to spell quantum chromodynamics.
And anyway, google search will correct their spelling.

P-branes.

Quantum Chromatics - That's genius! That is definitely on my top 5!

I don't understand why The Valence Band would be funny  Curse my limited knowledge of Physics.

Time Dilation is LMAO! Top 5.

Ok these are all really good names. But I'm thinking of the regular people and their spelling.

My music is going to be mostly pop-rock-screamo. Kind of like Woe, Is Me. I do a lot of acoustic for now though just because I don't have great recording equipment.

To answer your question: No, my audience is not geeky at all. I am though and Physics has to be in just about everything I do lol.

Aha lol. I actually get that one. Membrane theory and all right? But I can't call myself that :(. And most people would not get it.

The play on words struck me as funny. See "valence band".

Oh man, just searched up Time Dilation - it's taken! So is M Theory.

Quantum Chromatics is looking pretty good. I'll see if any more suggestions come up though.

Drat on you, Lisa! I was patiently reading through this in anticipation of posting that very suggestion.

I suppose that "Hairy Black Holes" could be misconstrued...

Thanks for all the input guys, all the names are so great; I had a hard time choosing.

Quantum Chromatics it is. Thanks for suggesting that Janus!

I guess I chose Quantum Chromatics because it's close to my original choice - Quantum chromodynamics. The facebook page and the youtube channel is up, I will be adding music soon, I promise.

And thanks again for all the suggestions!

That would be because as far as I know you have to register with Facebook in order to access any of their stuff. I would rather have my left nut crushed in a vise than become involved with those idiots.
