SUMMARY

To become an engineer in Greece, one must complete a higher education program, as self-teaching does not qualify for the title. The "Diplomate Engineer" title requires a five-year undergraduate degree from a polytechnic university, totaling 300 ECTS credits, equivalent to an integrated master's degree. Alternatively, the "Technologist Engineer" title is awarded after a four-year degree from a Technological Educational Institute (TEI), requiring 240 ECTS credits, equivalent to a bachelor's degree. TEIs were operational until 2019 and have since been integrated into other higher education institutions.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of calculus and physics fundamentals
  • Knowledge of ECTS credit system and ISCED levels
  • Familiarity with Greek higher education structure
  • Awareness of the differences between Diplomate and Technologist Engineer titles
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the curriculum of polytechnic universities in Greece
  • Explore the requirements for enrolling in engineering programs
  • Investigate the history and reforms of Technological Educational Institutes (TEIs)
  • Learn about career paths and opportunities for engineers in Greece
USEFUL FOR

Students aspiring to become engineers in Greece, educators in engineering fields, and individuals interested in the structure of higher education in Greece.

Start with a solid background in calculus and physics. You need the calculus to properly understand the physics, and you need the physics to understand the engineering courses.

And you will need to go to college instead of being self-taught.

Welcome, Konstantinos
What branch of engineering interests you the most?

Looks like gaining the titile of an engineer is not possible from being self-taught in Greece?
In Greece, the title of "Engineer" is awarded by higher education institutions. There are two types of engineer. The title "Diplomate Engineer" (Diplomate in Greek: Διπλωματούχος; Kάτοχος ενός Διπλώματος/Δίπλωμα/Diploma; Diploma holder) is awarded after completion of a five-year undergraduate engineering degree (diploma) programme at a polytechnic university. These degrees are 300 ECTS credits, leading to a qualification at ISCED level 7, equivalent to an integrated master's degree.

The title of "Technologist Engineer", is awarded after completion of a four-year (three and a half years from 1983 to 1995) undergraduate engineering degree programme at a technological educational institute (TEI). These are 240 (previously 210, 1983–1995) ECTS credits leading to an award at ISCED level 6, equivalent to a bachelor's degree. TEIs existed from 1983 to 2019; they were reformed between 2013 and 2019 and their departments incorporated into existing higher education institutions.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post a question like this, as I am new to this website and also very nervous about making a post that others might see/reply to. I am a freshman in high school and I am interested in astronomy. I want to learn about space, but I am not quite sure where to begin. Is there anything that I can do to seriously expand my...
