SpaceX's plan to deploy 42,000 satellites is expected to impact astronomical viewing due to increased light pollution. A recent discussion highlighted concerns about satellite reflections interfering with observations. To mitigate this, SpaceX has agreed to implement a coating on new satellites to reduce their brightness. This effort aims to limit the negative effects on astronomers and their ability to study the night sky. Overall, while some measures are being taken, the potential impact on astronomy remains a significant concern.

There was a recent long thread about this. I'll see if I can find it with a search...

I read they agreed to put some kind of coating on the new ones so they don't reflect as much light so as to try and limit the effect they have on astronomy.

UC Berkely, December 16, 2025 https://news.berkeley.edu/2025/12/16/whats-powering-these-mysterious-bright-blue-cosmic-flashes-astronomers-find-a-clue/ AT 2024wpp, a luminous fast blue optical transient, or LFBOT, is the bright blue spot at the upper right edge of its host galaxy, which is 1.1 billion light-years from Earth in (or near) a galaxy far, far away. Such objects are very bright (obiously) and very energetic. The article indicates that AT 2024wpp had a peak luminosity of 2-4 x...
