Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the capabilities of web browsers, specifically focusing on a Firefox addon that allows users to plot graphs. Participants explore the functionality, usability, and potential alternatives to this addon.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant highlights a new Firefox addon for plotting graphs, noting it has some issues but is a promising start.
  • Another participant expresses enthusiasm about installing the addon without specifying reasons.
  • Concerns are raised regarding the requirement to use Math.sin() and Math.cos() for trigonometric functions, with a suggestion that users should have simpler access to these functions.
  • A repeated concern about the necessity of using Math.sin() and Math.cos() is noted, indicating shared dissatisfaction among participants.
  • One participant suggests that similar functionality could have been achieved using Flash or Java, which would not require additional plugins and would be compatible with other browsers, speculating that the addon may be a port of an open-source graphic calculator.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express a mix of enthusiasm and criticism regarding the addon, with some agreeing on the usability issues related to function calls, while others speculate on alternative technologies without reaching a consensus on the best approach.

Contextual Notes

Some limitations in the discussion include the lack of detailed technical specifications for the addon and the absence of a thorough comparison with other potential solutions like Flash or Java.

What else can a browser do? ...Plot graphs!

Check out this latest Firefox addon...

It does have its share of problems, but it's a great start! :approve:

Nice! I don't know why , But I'm definitely going to install it

Hey, that's pretty cool. The only thing I don't like is that you have to do:, Math.sin(), Math.cos(), etc. Users should just be able to do: sin(), cos(), etc.

...Ditto...

That could have been done with Flash or Java, and hence not require another plugin. Not to mention it would run in other browsers as well. But I'm guessing they just ported some open source graphic calculator to a Firefox plugin.
