Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the skills and knowledge needed beyond learning Objective-C for developing successful free iOS apps. Participants explore the relationship between coding skills and app profitability, as well as promotional strategies.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses a desire to learn what additional skills are necessary after mastering Objective-C to achieve financial success with free apps.
  • Another participant questions the assumption that coding skills alone lead to high revenue, suggesting that other factors may play a significant role.
  • Promotion of apps is highlighted as a critical component for success, with links provided to resources on app marketing strategies.
  • Some participants note that many successful apps may be outliers or "flukes," indicating that a solid idea is essential for profitability.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on what additional skills are necessary beyond coding. There are competing views on the importance of coding versus marketing and idea generation in achieving app profitability.

Contextual Notes

The discussion lacks specific details on what constitutes a "solid idea" for an app and does not resolve the uncertainty surrounding the effectiveness of various promotional strategies.

Who May Find This Useful

I want to make free apps on iOS and that's why I'm learning Objective-C right now by www.codeschool.com but after learning Objective-C, what else do I need to learn in order to earn that much money like the website above said? After making free apps, where do I need to go?

Right now, your plan consists of:

1. Learn Objective-C
2. ?
3. Profits!

Yeah, there are some pretty impressive revenue figures in that article, but you have to ask yourself, 'Why does Farm Heroes Saga generate over a $100K of revenue a day?' It may have to do with something more than coding skills. There's probably plenty of 'free' apps out there which return exactly that: nothing.

:):)

Then what exactly has it to do with something other than coding skills?

That's what you have to figure out. I don't have the answer, otherwise I would be a billionaire coder.

Thank you so much for the extra info, @DrZoidberg !

Keep in mind, some of these apps are flukes (flappy bird, for example). You'll need a solid idea that can be exploited for profits, otherwise no amounts of advertising your app will do any good.
