SUMMARY

This forum discussion centers around the various courses students are taking in the fall semester, highlighting a range of subjects from advanced mathematics to introductory programming. Key courses mentioned include Analysis II, Algebra III, and Stochastic Processes, with textbooks such as "Real Analysis" by Royden and "Algebra" by Hungerford cited. Participants share their experiences and course selections, revealing a mix of foundational and advanced topics across different academic levels.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of advanced mathematical concepts such as Hilbert spaces and Banach spaces.
  • Familiarity with algebraic structures including noncommutative rings and modules.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical methods and their applications in economics.
  • Awareness of programming fundamentals relevant to computer science courses.
NEXT STEPS
  • Explore the textbook "Real Analysis" by Royden for deeper insights into measure and integration.
  • Research noncommutative algebra and its applications in modern mathematics.
  • Investigate the principles of Stochastic Processes and their relevance in financial modeling.
  • Learn about the integration of programming skills in mathematical applications through courses like Math with Computer Applications.
USEFUL FOR

Students in mathematics, computer science, and economics, as well as educators seeking to understand current academic trends and course offerings in higher education.

I've got:
Analysis II: Hilbert spaces, Banach spaces, L_p spaces, Lebesgue measure & integration, etc. Textbook is Real Analysis by Royden
Algebra III: noncommutative rings, modules, some categories, functors, tensor products, maybe some group representations, etc. Textbook is Algebra by Thomas Hungerford
Set Theory: this is directed studies so I'm not sure what I'll do, except it'll probably be with Theory of Sets by Kamke & Axiomatic Set Theory by Suppes.

I'd recommend dropping that "Fart" course!

That was a pretty big miss! The F is waaay on the other side of the keyboard.

By the way, what is happening to the forums? It's getting more and more... overlly-colorful: ( :messenger :secret: :star: )

I'm in my first year of university this year, and taking:
Calcuculus, Statistics, Philosophy, Computer Programming, and Physics

I don't know the numbers or 'real' names for the classes.

That's a weird mix...wow, yeah what's up with these smilies  ?!

anyway, I have
Calculus I
Analysis I
Linear Algebra
Mechanics I

:embarasse

I had to take calc and the programming course. The philosophy is my required writting course, Physics is my required course with a lab, and stats was my elective.

<---- what's with the medals?

D.E.

Haha, it took me about 30 seconds before I could see what you were talking about. I've been on the internet too long, errors are starting to slip right past my eyes. :frown: (uh... the emoticons are back to normal?)

Calcuculus might have been a real course! It.. it... ah nm...

How do you get a custom avatar, anyways? I have mine uploaded somewhere else, but I don't see where I can put in a link.
