Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around determining the acceleration of an object subjected to two forces, with a specified mass and angles. The forces are given as F1 and F2, with their respective magnitudes and directions relative to the x-axis.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants discuss the calculations of the forces' components and their contributions to the overall acceleration. There is a focus on the values derived for the x and y components of the acceleration, with some questioning the accuracy of these calculations.

Discussion Status

The conversation reflects an ongoing exploration of the calculations involved, with some participants expressing uncertainty about specific values. One participant indicates they have resolved their confusion, suggesting some progress in understanding.

Contextual Notes

Participants are working within the constraints of the problem as stated, with a focus on the forces acting on the object and the resultant acceleration. There is an indication of potential errors in the calculations that are being examined.

Homework Statement

Only two forces act on an object (mass=3.00kg). F1=60.0N 45.0deg above the +x axis, F2=40.0N on the +x axis. Find the magnitude and direction (relative to the x axis) of the acceleration of the object.

Homework Equations

F=ma,

The Attempt at a Solution

(60.0N)(sin(45))=Fy, Fy=42.4N
(60.0N)(cos(45))=Fx, Fx=42.4N
ay=((60.0N)+(42.4N))/3.00kg
ay=34.13 m/s^2
ax=40.0N/3.00kg
ax=13.3 m/s^2
a=36.6 m/s^2
68.7 deg above +x axis

I can't figure out where I am going wrong.

I think here.

ax is wrong?

nevermind I got it.
