What is the Angular Speed of an Automobile Engine?

Click For Summary

Homework Help Overview

The problem involves calculating the angular displacement of an automobile engine as its angular speed increases from 140 rad/s to 200 rad/s over a period of 20 seconds. The context is centered around angular motion and kinematics.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification, Mathematical reasoning

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants express uncertainty about how to start the problem and seek general hints. There are discussions about average angular speed and acceleration, with some participants attempting to clarify the difference between these concepts.

Discussion Status

The discussion is active, with participants exploring different interpretations of average speed and acceleration. Some guidance has been provided regarding the definitions of average angular speed and acceleration, but there is no explicit consensus on the final calculations.

Contextual Notes

Participants are working under the constraints of a homework assignment, which may limit the information they can use or the methods they can apply.

What's the average speed over the 20 seconds?

3 rads/s^2

That's not the average angular speed. That's the average angular acceleration. What's the average angular speed?

soo, 170 rads/s then?

Sooo, if the average rotational speed is 170 rad/s, and the engine runs for 20 s, how many radians does it rotate through?

oh ok ,so it would just be 3400 then. Thanks for your help!
