The discussion centers around the concept of flirting, its definitions, and the various perspectives on its implications in social interactions. Flirting is described as making playful romantic or sexual overtures, often without serious intent, which can lead to misunderstandings and emotional complications. Participants reflect on their experiences with flirting, noting that while it can be light-hearted and fun, it also has potential downsides, such as crossing boundaries or creating awkward situations, especially in professional settings. Some express discomfort with flirting, viewing it as disingenuous or annoying, while others see it as a way to lighten moods or navigate social dynamics. The conversation highlights the importance of mutual understanding and consent in flirting, emphasizing that when boundaries are respected, it can be enjoyable, but when misinterpreted, it can lead to negative consequences.

I used to flirt. I wasn't any good at it, so I gave it up.
Why? because you got married?
You'd think you'd get more of a response from an invitation like, "How about we make the gravitational force between us match the gravitational force of Jupiter on you?" :frown:

That would have worked on me! :!)

By visually measuring the wrinkles in the front of your pants, calculating your body mass based on your height and weight, and dividing that number by your waist size -- I conclude that you have absolutely nothing in your pocket and are, in fact, glad to see me.

If you're just trying to lighten the mood, then you're just joking around, IMO. Comedians don't flirt with their audiences, right?

Maybe I softened up the meaning too much with 'just trying ot lighten up the mood'. There has to be some genuine attraction between the two participants.

I hear what astronauc is saying though. I remember plenty of girls in high school that only flirted as a means to get what they wanted.
