Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the identification and removal of a growth found on metal railings, specifically focusing on the nature of the growth and its potential origin, which some participants suggest may be insect eggs.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Debate/contested, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • The original poster describes a growth on their window railings, noting its firmness and resistance to removal, and mentions a potential connection to bacteria.
  • One participant suggests that the growth may be insect eggs on stalks, which is described as not uncommon.
  • There is a question about which specific insect the eggs might belong to, indicating a need for more precise identification.
  • Another participant highlights that the identification may depend on geographical location, suggesting that different insects may be present in different areas.
  • A participant references the Chrysopidae family as a possible source of the eggs, although they express uncertainty about other insects with similar characteristics.
  • There is a request for clarification regarding the length of the stalks associated with the growth, which is later specified as approximately 1 cm.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the specific identity of the growth or the insect it may originate from, indicating multiple competing views and ongoing uncertainty.

Contextual Notes

The discussion lacks definitive identification of the growth and is dependent on the geographical context, which may influence the types of insects present.

Homework Statement

I'm not able to identify this, i found it on my window railings.
Could you help me out.

Also, they are attached firmly to the railings, i couldn't blow them away, i tried pulling out a few the white parts comes off easily, but the stalk(if i can call it so) is hard to pull out, by hard i mean, there is some, more than expected resistance, but doable. A bit slippery also.

Which insect?

You ARE aware of the fact it depends on where you live (and I guess you are not my neighbor)?

Ok, i thought its just specific to a particular insect.
