SUMMARY

The IUPAC nomenclature for the discussed aromatic compound is 2,3-dibromo-1-phenylpentane, as confirmed by the reference provided from Master Organic Chemistry. The initial suggestion of 1-phenyl-2,3-dibromopentane was incorrect due to the rules of nomenclature that prioritize substituent order alphabetically. This discussion highlights the importance of following IUPAC guidelines in organic chemistry naming conventions.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of IUPAC nomenclature rules
  • Familiarity with aromatic compounds
  • Knowledge of substituent priority in organic chemistry
  • Basic skills in interpreting chemical structures
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the IUPAC nomenclature rules for complex organic compounds
  • Learn about the significance of substituent order in naming
  • Explore resources on aromatic compound structures and properties
  • Review examples of nomenclature for dibromo-substituted compounds
USEFUL FOR

Chemistry students, organic chemists, and educators seeking to deepen their understanding of IUPAC nomenclature and its application to aromatic compounds.
