SUMMARY

The discussion centers on a physics project proposal for a junior undergraduate majoring in physics, with a focus on optics and quantum physics. The individual has a budget of $1,000-$5,000 and access to machine tool technology for creating optical filters. With three years of experience in the optics industry, the participant seeks project ideas that can be completed in a garage setting and encourages consulting professors for potential research problems.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of optics and quantum physics principles
  • Experience in optical filter design and manufacturing
  • Familiarity with machine tool technology
  • Basic project management skills for budgeting and planning
NEXT STEPS
  • Research advanced optical filter design techniques
  • Explore quantum optics experiments suitable for a garage setting
  • Investigate potential collaborations with professors in physics
  • Learn about project funding opportunities for undergraduate research
USEFUL FOR

Undergraduate physics students, optics enthusiasts, and anyone interested in conducting hands-on research projects in quantum physics and optics.

I am looking for a project idea to do over the next year or so. I know there are many threads on this topic, but most are not quite what I am looking for. Here are my interests and resources:

1- $1,000-$5,000 scholarship money to fund the project.
2- needs to fit in the garage.
3- My interest are in optics and quantum physics.
4- I have 3 years of experience working in the optics industry (filter design and manufacturing).
6- I have access to machine tool technology, and I can make my own optical filters.
7- I am a Junior year undergraduate physics major, and of course have access to Doctors and Professors to help.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

I you really want guidance from professors, ask if they have come across any interesting problems you could work on...

you'll not only get ideas based on your current education/knowledge, but also some personal interest from a professor or two.
