Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around how to set a furnace temperature to achieve a target of 900°C, given a deviation of -9.2°C in the measured temperature. Participants explore the implications of the lack of an offset option in the controller and seek solutions to calibrate the system effectively.

Discussion Character

  • Technical explanation, Experimental/applied, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the necessary set temperature to achieve 900°C, given the current measured temperature of 909.2°C and a display temperature of 900°C.
  • Another participant requests additional documentation, such as datasheets and manuals for the oven and controller, suggesting that a calibration procedure may be available.
  • A later reply proposes that the user could conduct experiments to create a lookup table for the desired temperature, effectively bypassing the controller's limitations.
  • There is a humorous suggestion about choosing a specific temperature (890.8°C) in a hypothetical lottery scenario, indicating a light-hearted approach to the problem.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus on the best approach to achieve the desired temperature, with multiple viewpoints and suggestions presented without resolution.

Contextual Notes

Limitations include the lack of calibration options in the controller and uncertainty regarding the accuracy of the temperature measuring device being used.

How to incorporate deviation -9.2C in furnace, while its measured temperature is 909.2C and Display temperature is 900. if there is no option of offset in controller. What will be the set temperature to achieve 900C.

Welcome to PF.

Can you post datasheets for the oven and controller? Do you have the Owners Manual and Service Manual for both? If so, there is probably some calibration procedure listed.

Also, what other temperature measuring device are you using to sense the "measured temperature"? Are you sure it is accurate?

This seems too simple, I must not understand something.

You have a thermometer you trust. You can't calibrate your controller. So, why don't you be the controller. Do some experiments and make a lookup table. Ask for the temperature that corresponds with the behavior you want.

PS: If you choose to have a lottery, I've got dibs on 890.8C.
