Unlike most of the other threads here, I am not asking for advice on which course to take or something similar. I am asking for advice on how to fund for my university education.

I am a foreigner who took his A-levels in Singapore and was offered a place to read a double major in Physics and Mathematics or Physics (the two courses that I applied for) at the universities here. That is all good as I get to do what I have always wanted.

But my estranged father is a bankrupt. My mother, a low wage-earner, has already taken on quite a loan to pay for my sister's college education. I got my fair share of distinctions but not enough to qualify me for the scholarships as an international student. I cannot return to the universities in my home country as being away from my homeland for so long, I do not know the native language. Moreover I belong to a minority race that the local government does not care much for.

I signed up to be conscripted into the Singapore army in hopes of obtaining her citizenship so as to be eligible for the scholarships and tuition grants for Singaporeans. But I have not received any citizenship offer even though the rest who enlisted with me did. Perhaps this is due to my father's financial position.

I am in a predicament. I feel that I am wasting my time with reckless hope but I do not even know how else to get myself to a university.

What would you do if you were in my position?

I'm not familiar with the educational system in your country, but I'll try to answer.

You may need to work at a job, and go to university part-time. Is that possible in your country?

Here in the US, some companies offer to help pay for university for their employees, is that available?
